Health and well-being of employees, clients and customers is fundamental to best practice business models. Occupational health and safety is a legal requirement and also boosts productivity and retention of valuable employees through prioritising people’s lives both in and out of the workplace.
The concept of Trauma Informed Practice (TIP) has broadened beyond mental health settings into legal practice and organisations taking a proactive approach in provision of services to the public, and creating psychological safety for employees. But what does TIP mean and how does an organisation develop policy, procedures and practice built upon these principles?
Trauma informed organisations (TIO) recognise the high prevalence of trauma in society and therefore, the possibility of trauma experiences in the lives of employees, clients and customers. A TIO creates an environment where employees and the public they serve feel physically and psychologically safe. This is achieved through developing trauma informed policy, procedures, and protocols at every level of the organisation.
A TIO provides training to increase knowledge about trauma, impacts, and skills to support employees and their clients. It recognises the impact on employees working with traumatised individuals, provides supervision, vicarious trauma training and 1:1 consultation as required.
Naomi has over three decades of experience in the field of complex trauma, as a therapist, clinical supervisor, consultant, author and trainer. Since 2009, she has provided consultancy and training to the United Nations, and develops TI programs for law firms, financial institutions, justice departments, private and public organisations.
Naomi has a suite of training in trauma informed principles and practice which can be delivered in-person or on-line. She will collaborate with you to design training to meet the specific needs and requirements of your organisation.
